“After 38 years of producing ready-to-wear men's and women's collections, the time has come for us to stop and concentrate only on the production of haute couture collections, perfumes and, of course, collaborations, for which there was not enough time before. This is the beginning of something new. I will be able to fully express my creativity again without any restrictions,”said Jean-Paul Gaultier.
The designer explained that financially and morally, he can no longer participate in the design race that kills the opportunity to create something really interesting. He stops production of ready-to-wear collections and turns completely to haute couture.
In 2004, Jean-Paul Gaultier even had to fire 31 employees in an effort to keep the business at a loss. His real income over the years has come from the womens Classique and the mens Le Mâle, as well as the watch, eyewear and beachwear lines.
Jean-Paul Gaultier opened his company in 1976, in 1991 he started the cosmetics business, in 1997 he entered the world of haute couture, and in 2000 he opened accessory lines.
Thus, on September 27, at Paris Fashion Week, you can see the designer's last ready-to-wear show. And it will surely be great.
