Apple charlotte is one of the most popular dishes in the world, and it owes its origin to the culinary traditions of Germany, Great Britain and France. This dish has a lot of different cooking options, ranging from differences in the dough recipe, and ending with a variety of fillings.
However, the traditional "Russian" charlotte appeared in London at the beginning of the 19th century - the chef Marie Antoine Karem, who was in the service of Emperor Alexander I, once decided to create an easy-to-prepare and tasty pie that would become a part of Russian culinary culture. Initially, his gastronomic creation was called "Parisian charlotte", but later the dish became known as "charlotte russe" ("Russian charlotte").

The name of the dish itself has several different versions of its origin. According to one of them, the charlotte was named after the wife of King George III of Great Britain, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. According to another version, the apple pie began to be called charlotte thanks to the German women living in Russia in the late 19th - early 20th centuries - according to historians, German women who worked in bakeries used the remaining products to prepare charlotte, which caused irony among Russian people, who they liked to joke that the wives of the Germans even save on pies.
One way or another, today apple charlotte is known all over the world and is loved by gourmets for its ease of preparation and excellent taste. We share the recipe for the traditional Russian version of the dish, which is considered the standard in the CIS.

Ingredients:
- Flour 1 glass
- Chicken egg 4 pcs.
- Sugar 1 glass
- Apples 1 kg
- Butter 30 g
- Baking powder 1.2 tsp
- Salt 1.2 tsp
Cooking method:
Traditionally, Antonovka apples are used for charlotte, but if you wish, you can choose any other variety.

First you need to beat the sugar and eggs - for this you can use a whisk or mixer. After there are no lumps left in the resulting mixture, add flour and baking powder to it, mix thoroughly again. Next, peel the apples and cut them into small wedges.
Then grease the baking dish with butter, put the chopped apples into it and pour over the dough. Send the form into an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 30-35 minutes, periodically checking the readiness with a wooden skewer. You can sprinkle the finished dish with powdered sugar or serve hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (also read: Ice Baby: How to make homemade ice cream).
