Serdar Yanikov: Masha, I don't know how to describe you correctly. Who are you - stage designer, theater designer, theater designer?
Maria Tregubova: A set designer is an artist who makes scenery for a theater. In theater, as well as in architecture and design, there is an author of the artistic concept. That is, you create a project, and then you follow the progress of this project. The phrase "theater designer" is a translation from English. A theater designer is a “theater artist”. In short, in the theater I come up with Decorations and Costumes.
Let's talk about earthly affairs: how much does the budget influence the idea of a talented artist? Is there a lot of money?
Since childhood, my dad says: "Masha, no matter how much you give you, you still won't have enough." The budget is determined in advance, you understand where you work - on a small stage in a chamber theater, where there is not a fig, including no money, and there you have to make everything out of paper and poop and then glue it all together with scotch tape. Or you work in a powerful theater, where they say to you: “You are an artist. So do it. " And you calmly invent for yourself. Then, of course, it turns out that you have exceeded any, even the largest, budget by three times. It's always like this with me.
Do you know how to be persistent when you have to defend your project?
I apply all my innate and acquired qualities so that my project changes minimally. But sometimes these necessary changes are even better. I always push the gas to the full, but at some point I need to sharply relax. To look at everything from a different angle. Often no one notices your relaxation. And everything continues to move by inertia. This is a good moment to change something. Such technology.

“There are seven notes, and you've heard them so many times. No, of course, there are limits, this is nonsense - it's primitive to steal, but you can collage."
Did you find out where magic comes from in theater?
My favorite moment in the theater is before the curtain opened. The highest catharsis, then it usually gets more boring. But this expectation, it is the coolest. Well, behind the scenes is always much more interesting.
Several times I've heard you called "our Wilson". What do you think about this?
Is that what they say about me? Amazing. Wilson is a genius. It flatters me. I hope this is not because I had some kind of screen somewhere in the play, like his?
Is being seen (visual awareness of current trends) important or does it deprive you of original thoughts?
The artist, you know, the architect, is influenced by everything he sees. This cup on the table affects. I kind of photographed her internally. And when I need it, I'll take it. And when I need it, I'll take someone's work that I've seen. I'll take some squeeze out of it, a note. Not in the sense that it was completely packed. Although you can steal (laughs). There are seven notes, and you've heard them so many times. No, of course, there are limits, this is nonsense - it's primitive to steal, but you can collage.

Now is the time for collaborations. Do you have joint projects with your husband?
Still, an artist is a loner profession. Even with the director it can be difficult for me, and if the second artist is in general, then shoot yourself. Working with my husband is also very difficult.
How to keep the drive working? And in life?
There is no need to turn one into another and vice versa.
What can be called your professional doping?
Vacation.
What is your ideal free time?
Walk somewhere far away.
How and where do you see yourself in 10 years?
With a butterfly net, I run after the butterfly across the tall grass.
What happens if you get angry?
I will turn into my great-grandfather. They say that in moments of anger he became completely insane.
Is plastic surgery a necessity for a woman? How do you feel about this?
I will run after butterflies with a butterfly net all my old age, not before surgery.
And it's all about her
