This year's three new Lancôme fragrances are united under the name Les Eaux Grands Crus. To create them, the brand, as usual, invited the most stellar perfumers of the era. So, Christophe Reino, in addition to Lankom's LNuit Tresor, managed to work on AurMugler, LunNinRicci and 1 Million Paco Rabanne. Natalie Lorson created Black Opium for Yves Saint Laurent and Weekend for Burberry. And Amandine Marie is the author of the perfume of the same name by Chloe and Angel Mugler in the version of eau de toilette.

“From the very beginning of our work on the Les Eaux Grands Crus bottles, we have been immersed in these fragrances. We even managed to observe how flowers are collected and processed for them. We realized that the process of creating a perfume composition is very similar to the process of creating a sketch and design, and indeed to any art in general,”say the creators of bottles for the Grands Crus line, artists from the creative duo Alex et Marine

The word "eau" ("water") in the name, as a rule, means that we have a light and fresh fragrance in front of us, similar in sound to cologne. So the press release promised something similar: “… they represent a new understanding of freshness, bringing a touch of sophistication to it and opening up new cool facets,” it says about Les Eaux Grands Crus fragrances.

But it’s not that simple. Neither Oranges Bigarades, Santal Kardamon, nor Iris Dragées really look like refreshing summer colognes. The first one starts with sweet citruses and immediately "leaves" in no less sweet and heady white flowers.

In the second, woody sandalwood notes are mixed with a "warm" base of rich vanilla, and in the third, powdery iris "appears" in a duet with sugar almonds - all together really reminds of the smell of dragees from childhood. Perhaps the answer lies in the concept of the Les Eaux series - the way the brand claims it. He positions the new collection not just as "fresh", but as built on paradoxes: one where freshness is mixed with the warmth of the East and the sweetness of gourmet. However, in this case, the words Les Eaux in the title could well have been abandoned.

It must be said that “gourmand” has become Lancôme's perfumery “horse” in the last few years. Since the vanilla-candy aroma LVie Est Belle was released in 2012, which instantly became a bestseller all over the world, the brand has continued to develop the beloved theme in one way or another, including in the Grands Crus niche line.

In 2016, when the collection premiered, five fragrances were released. They all turned out to be "warm" and very oriental in spirit. The brightest of the five was, perhaps, Lavandes Trianon, in which notes of lavender were mixed with accords of milk and two types of vanilla. Thus, the fragrance became the first "gourmet" lavender in the history of perfumery.

In 2017, the Grands Crus line was expanded with two new products. This time Lancôme decided to play with the rose theme and … again created two delicacies for the sweet tooth. Parfait de Roses looks like a rose berry jam, and Roses Berberanz looks like a sweet and sour nut cake.

So Les Eaux Grands Crus fits more than organically into the general style of the niche line of the famous perfume house. The main thing is that the fashion "for sweet" in perfumery does not begin to fade away - rumors about this have been circulating for more than a season.
