She has come a long way from pop star to fashion designer. Over the years, Victoria Beckham has experimented with outfits, hairstyles, tan tones and even breast size. But as the makeup gurus note, her makeup is an example of what the Swedes call "lagom" - not very much and not very little, just as much as needed. Moreover, over the past 10 years, Beckham's make-up has become even more organic, and at 44, Victoria looks more sophisticated and self-confident than before. Makeup artist Wendy Rowe, who has worked with Victoria for the past five years, gave seven reasons why Beckham looks perfect now.
Knows what suits her
“Victoria's makeup is minimalist yet flawless at the same time. Attention to detail is important: we can change one of the elements here, another ─ there, but it will not be conspicuous, so it always looks modern. It's about being comfortable with yourself. Victoria knows what works in her case, and we only make small adjustments,”says Wendy.
Carefully takes care of the skin
“She's really seriously working on it. Makeup is just the icing on the cake. Skin care regimen is a religion for Victoria. She never go to bed without taking off her makeup. Before starting the make-up, I massage her with a makeup remover to remove puffiness and improve blood circulation,”explained Rowe. She added that Victoria loves products from Sarah Chapman (Sarah Chapman is a British dermatologist, favorite cosmetologist of models, stars and, by the way, Meghan Markle).
"Gently" accentuates facial features
“I give her a light contouring, which visually" stretches "the structure of the face, but I avoid clear lines. I apply the contouring stick under the cheekbones, on the wings of the nose, on the chin and under the chin, and then blend it with a brush. This gives the correct structure to the face. Using a base after contouring and blending with a flat brush makes it look very natural. And I apply the base with my fingers, thus creating a second skin effect. Any minor imperfections are neatly masked by the appropriate concealer tone at the very end,”Rowe describes the makeup technique.
Emphasizes the most beautiful ─ eyes
Victoria is sure that eyes are her specialty. The classic smoky eye is Beckham's signature style, but depending on the event and the season with a makeup artist, she changes some details, so the makeup always looks relevant. “Sometimes we just emphasize the lashes with a thick layer of mascara,” says Rowe (usually the makeup artist uses waterproof mascara). Brown eyeliner is preferred for expressive makeup: the line is applied to the lashes of the upper and lower eyelids, then shaded with a small brush. For evening wear, Rowe can add a neutral eye shadow, and for a light daytime make-up, use a contour stick.
Doesn't forget about eyebrows
According to Wendy, Victoria was lucky with her eyebrows. They are quite thick, but at the same time, the star prefers not to emphasize them, which is very wise. The makeup artist recommends removing excess hair from the bottom to create an effective volume in accordance with the natural shape of the eyebrows. Wendy begins by combing her brows with a brush or applying gel and then applying light pencil strokes, trying to maintain the natural texture.
Doesn't go wrong with lipstick
A minimum of makeup will keep you looking younger, Rowe says. Since Victoria prefers to focus on the eyes, she chooses lipsticks in nude shades, which can be called universal. The makeup artist applies a lighter shade in the middle and a darker one on the corners of the lips to create the illusion of plumpness. However, from time to time, Victoria is not averse to using coral lipstick.
Keeps track of your health
Victoria's most important beauty asset is a healthy lifestyle. She follows a balanced diet, which not only has a beneficial effect on the condition of her skin, but also allows her to be energetic enough. She devotes enough time to sports and healthy sleep. “Her skin is glowing even without makeup, so all I do is just highlight her best features,” concludes Rowe.
