When a few years ago I saw the book of the famous restaurant critic Jeffrey Steingarten "The Man Who Ate Everything", I immediately understood - this is about me. Of course, everything turned out to be not so simple, and the great gourmet created a real encyclopedia of taste (by the way, I highly recommend looking through this educational work on a full stomach), but no one could define my personal gastronomic addictions more precisely and mercilessly at that time.

In my plate during the day, in a terrible "incestuous" alliance, there were proteins, fats and carbohydrates, gourmet dishes "caught up" with fast food, and with drinking in general there was a complete mess. And all this adventurous "food life" was interspersed with hard fasting days and questionable diets.

Olga Slutsker, the president of World Class fitness clubs, gave me the first grain of doubt. We talked for a long time about a healthy lifestyle, sports, a beautiful body. At some point, Olga seized the initiative and asked what, in fact, my today's breakfast consisted of. A simple listing of what I had eaten shocked me myself: a piece of raw smoked sausage, pickled cucumber, cherry and three cups of coffee.

Perhaps there was something else, but this is enough to instantly quit the gloss and never work in the "Health and Beauty" department again. The next stage was quite natural pain in the stomach, a constant feeling of discomfort and the final loss of stability in matters of the figure. The hour of full conversion to an adherent of healthy eating came after a three-day on-site detox course, which released me into life with a feeling of extraordinary bodily purity and, I would even say, sterility. How afraid I was to turn into a "food dump" again and break the wonderful feeling of lightness and complete harmony with my own body!

From that moment on, my menu has changed beyond recognition. Over time, the diet and lifestyle began to fit me in the same way as the classic Chanel suit. I swear that every new day now starts with oatmeal in water and a handful of berries, and ends with a glass of kefir or a light green salad. Forever (I hope) sausage is a thing of the past, and life is filled with grilled vegetables, boiled meat and freshly squeezed juices. And the point is not even that capital truths, in general, changed my state of health, they changed much more: my sense of self.

A conscious attitude to what you put in your mouth reflects the essence of the personality in the same way as things are much more intellectual. Try to ask yourself, holding in your hands a traditional Moscow menu, which is reminiscent of Ulysses in thickness, and the content of Tale of the Nations of the World: “Are you really hungry now? What do you want and to what extent will it be useful? And most importantly - what is it made of? Can this restaurant have really fresh produce at this time of year, or are we talking about defrosted convenience foods? " After answering all these questions and making responsible choices, your self-esteem will immediately gain points. After all, you not only satisfied your hunger, but gave yourself pleasure, benefited the body and, if you want, expressed yourself.

Today, much in our life is determined not by quantity, but by quality, including food. So I came up with new rules for myself, with which I am happy to share:

  • I try to avoid unnecessary temptations. Very often we are not so much hungry as we want to feel this or that taste. In places rich in beautiful and varied food, it is usually difficult to control yourself. The way out is simple - until the body tuned in to "reasonable nutrition", I stopped unnecessarily going to the market and gastronomic restaurants (see also: "Tricks of the restaurant menu, because of which you overpay and eat too much (and how not to fall for them") In the store I go to a strictly set goal, not being distracted by the study of smoked eel and Ossetian pies.
  • In unfamiliar places, order only familiar dishes. If fate has thrown you into an unknown (and not yet described in gastronomic guides) food point, forget about experiments and give up haute French cuisine. Vegetable salad and a piece of meat are quite difficult to spoil (although it is possible).

  • You should not be heroic and veto your favorite products. You can afford them in the morning, in a reasonable amount and in the right places. In practice, it looks like this. I really love bread, but it's definitely not worth overusing it. Therefore, I eat bread only in France and Switzerland, while in Moscow I simply try not to buy it - since almost always my expectations are not met. I declared bread to be a luxury item. And I am not Marie Antoinette to make luxury the norm.
  • And yet - now I think over every piece that I want to put in my mouth. A question asked in time can become another lost kilogram.
