Some make-up artists suggest to abandon "fluffy" helpers and use fingers to apply makeup. However, most of us still choose brushes that make it easy to create everyday (and less casual) looks. Here is a list of essential brushes for your home beauty arsenal (and they definitely deserve a place in your makeup bag).
1. Brush for foundation with a flat top (flat-top)

For a liquid or loose foundation, choose a thick, flat brush to create the effect of an airbrushed makeup (a method of applying makeup where cosmetics are sprayed onto the skin with an airbrush). “This brush penetrates every corner, so it easily spreads the foundation, which completely hides pores and fine lines. A flat-top brush will create the most flawless and even skin tone for your skin,”says It Cosmetics co-founder Jamie Kern Lima.
Apply the foundation to the back of your hand, brush a little on the brush, and place a dot on your nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. Starting from the nose, spread the cream over the cheeks, then work on the forehead and chin, working from the center to the edge. Make sure that the tone does not leave clear lines, and also do not forget to distribute the product along the transition line on the neck.
2. Contour brush

Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury is a fan of the contour brush and uses it to give the face the desired relief. She suggests looking in the mirror, and then pulling in your cheeks and walking with light movements along the natural hollows - they will tell you exactly where to create the shadow. Makeup artist Mary Greenwell also recommends a slightly beveled contour brush to give your face a crisp, light outline. Use the Contour Brush and Dark Concealer to darken the cheekbones, wings, bridge of the nose, and the chin. The main thing in this business is to shade the boundaries well.
3. Brush for bronzer

After creating the outline, it would be nice to get a glowing effect - a bronzer can help with this (see also: "The sun in the hands: how to use a bronzer correctly"). To apply it, it is better to take not a contour brush, but a special one - it should be soft and loose so as not to collect too much product and not to leave unnecessary "spots". Once you're done contouring, Tilbury recommends picking up a bronzer brush and applying a shimmery product to your face to create a sun-kissed effect. You need to use bronzer on the protruding parts of the face, where sunlight first comes in: nose, cheekbones, area above the eyebrows. Don't forget the most important step - feathering. It is necessary to create a smooth and natural "shadow play".
4. Concealer brush

The concealer brush is very easy to recognize: it is small, flat and slightly rounded. One of the main requirements for it is the density of the "golden mean" level, which will help to provide good coverage and will not injure the delicate skin in the delicate area around the eyes. Makeup artist Lisa Eldridge, in whose magic hands Emma Watson, Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley and other Hollywood stars have already managed to fall, believes that the type of concealer brush depends on the size of the face. She herself prefers a flat brush for such work, but always chooses different sizes.
Using the concealer brush is simple: apply the product in an inverted triangle to dark circles under the eyes. Use a patting motion to spread the concealer. You can also use this small brush to mask minor imperfections in the skin by gently covering them with a corrective product.
5. Blush brush

You need different brushes for bronzer and blush, because it's all about size. “It takes a large brush for the glow all over the face that bronzer creates, and when it comes to blush, you need something smaller to gently apply it to the apples of your cheeks,” says makeup artist Amy Lewis. The distribution of blush depends on the density of the brush. For bright colors, choose a brush that is not too hard, otherwise the color may be too intense. To create a natural blush, a soft bristle and a rounded shape are more suitable.
The technique of applying blush (read also: "5 tricks to make the blush last all day") is usually straightforward: make a slight movement from the temple towards the nose, stopping in the middle of the cheek. The technique of applying the number three can give relief to the makeup: start movements from the temple, go to the cheekbone, and then make the last curl along the edge of the face to the chin.
6. Eyebrow brush

An eyebrow brush is one of your indispensable helpers. One side of such a brush is beveled, and it is on this side that you need to collect the coloring pigment in order to add color to the eyebrows, fill them in, and make them visually wider. Often these brushes have a brush on the other side so that the eyebrows can be combed and styled. Makeup artist Mario Dedivanovich, who works with Kim Kardashian, loves to use this brush to shape the eyebrows the way they want.
To get a good result, Dedivanovich starts with a brush and then slightly fills in the gaps wherever needed with an eyebrow pencil. After that, he shapes them with a brush and shadows. “I use an eye shadow that is one shade lighter than the pencil I used earlier ─ it softens the look and adds naturalness,” says Mario.
