We often feel even more overwhelmed on Monday than on Friday. Marie Claire talks about how to spend your weekend with benefit and have time to gain strength for the whole coming week.
Leave work with an empty head
So, in order to forget about the work on the weekend, which already took enough energy from you for a whole week, try to discard all unnecessary thoughts by going home on Friday. To do this, it is worth stealing some time from yourself on the last working day: write down the plan for Monday on a piece of paper, make a list of things that you have to do first when you come to work after rest. After all, thanks to such tactics, your subconscious mind will not torment you with this during a well-deserved rest.
It's also good to set a milestone for yourself - determine when the weekend starts for you. Saturday morning, Friday night, or any other time that suits you. Once you reach the important mark, you will realize that it has become much easier to breathe. Moreover, you will feel relaxed, all weekly stresses will remain behind.
Alas, often a busy schedule forces us to return to work on weekends, for example, checking mail, making important calls that cannot wait until Monday, and so on. In this case, if possible, protect yourself from unwanted interference with your personal space and time: try to check your mailbox no more than once a day. After all, you definitely deserve the right to rest.
Look for contrasts
Since childhood, we have been taught that changing activities contributes to good rest and the appearance of the necessary energy. But despite the fact that our brain has already received the news of the end of the working week, the body is still in its usual mode, and, as a result, the rest turns out to be incomplete.
Well, it's time to look for contrasts. For example, if for five days you have to sit at the computer without getting up, it is best to devote time to sports or any other vigorous activity on the weekend. Organize a general cleaning, conduct an audit in your wardrobe. In short, do what you haven't spent enough time in the previous days.
By the way, sports not only have a beneficial effect on your figure, but also energize for quite a long time. If you spend Saturday and Sunday in the gym, your cheerfulness will not leave you until Wednesday next week.
Get enough sleep
Healthy sleep is a guarantee of vigor of body and spirit. It is best not to go to a noisy party after the last working day, but to get a good night's sleep. Sleep brings the functioning of the human nervous system back to normal, all organs rest and recover. True, you need to fall asleep naturally. Forget about pills, because only healthy sleep has a positive effect on our body. After the required number of hours spent in bed, you will feel a real surge of strength and energy. Then all work will be done quickly and easily.
To help you sleep deeply and fully (read also: "Sleep Better: Why Deep Sleep is Important and How to Improve It"), you can take a short walk before getting under the covers. Despite the fact that we live in a big city, clean air is still found here: for example, in your yard or in a nearby park. Do not be lazy to take the evening promenade.
Also, the quality of rest is significantly influenced by the awakening process. Do not rush to jump out of bed right away - firstly, this can provoke sudden dizziness, and secondly, your body simply does not have time to reorganize into an activity mode. Stretching will help you to recover, especially since you will have plenty of time for them on weekends.
Don't count on much
Don't plan too much for the weekend. Firstly, if you endlessly clean up, wash the dishes, try to have time to visit your parents, go shopping and change the tires on your car, that is, all the chances simply will not last until Monday, and if you do not complete your planned tasks, you will feel guilty.
Forget about it. Weekends are meant for you to fully relax. But you should also not get carried away with idle pastime - it will not end with anything good, but, most likely, turn out to be completely unnecessary headache, lethargy and drowsiness for you (read also: "Chronic fatigue syndrome: causes, symptoms and treatment methods"). Since our task is to restore the strength lost at work, try to organize your weekend so as not to abandon all household chores, and do not forget to leave yourself time for a short respite.
Slow down your steps, and then surprisingly the weekend will seem much longer than it really is. Implement plans slowly - and they will be your joy. And doctors, meanwhile, recommend completely freeing at least one day off a month: it is sometimes useful to spend the whole day with a book in bed.
End the weekend properly
It's Sunday evening. We are sure you had a great weekend, you had a great time, but nevertheless, it's time to get back to your usual schedule. Before going to bed, pour yourself a cup of hot herbal tea, take a shower, do something to switch and tune in to a relaxed mood, it can be a pleasant conversation with family members or watching a light comedy that does not force you to overload your brain with unnecessary thoughts. But do not stay up late, today you need to sleep as well as in the previous days, and if you did not have time to do something from the planned, forget about it until next weekend.
