First of all, you need to understand that acclimatization can catch up not only in distant countries, but also in native spaces. The further you live from the place you want to visit, the more likely your body will have a hard time. Often, faced with acclimatization, we do not understand what is happening and attribute the unwellness to a cold, poisoning or heat stroke. In order to know acclimatization, you need to study its symptoms.

Symptoms

  • Sometimes the manifestations of the body's adaptation to a new climate are really similar to a cold: the temperature rises, a runny nose, sore throat, chills, weakness appear.
  • You are overcome by drowsiness or, conversely, insomnia. Therefore, be sure to pay attention to any sleep disturbances.
  • Dizziness and fatigue are quite possible.
  • Acclimatization can be accompanied by a weakening of the immune system, and, as a consequence, an exacerbation of chronic diseases.
  • The work of the digestive system and gastrointestinal tract is disrupted. Vomiting, nausea, constipation and diarrhea are possible.
  • While the body is rebuilding, the likelihood of heatstroke and overheating increases.
  • You can become irritable, sluggish, and lose your appetite.

Actions

What should be done to protect yourself and fully relax? The modern person has not so much free time and the vacation usually lasts no more than two weeks. And in the case of acclimatization, it would be good not less. Because the body can adapt to new conditions from 2 days to a week. This must be taken into account, especially when going to the other end of the world.

  • It is good to be able to advance to the time of the country you are planning to visit. Of course, it is not so easy for a working person to do this, but you can shift the time a little: go to bed an hour later, get up an hour earlier - depending on which schedule you need to adjust to.
  • Physical activity before vacation is needed not only to look spectacular in a swimsuit. They also help to cope with acclimatization. It will be easier for the body to cope if you are in good shape.
  • Proper nutrition and vitamins will help keep yourself in good shape. Talk to your doctor about prescribing a course of vitamins that are useful to drink before traveling.
  • It will not be superfluous to prepare not only from the inside, but also from the outside. If you are going to actively sunbathe, then it would be nice to tan a little in advance (for example, at the dacha) in order to protect the skin from burning, and yourself from heatstroke. Of course, don't forget about SPF creams.

  • If you are on a long flight, drink as much water as possible on the plane to stay hydrated. You should give up alcohol.
  • In the first days of vacation, do not be too active. Schedule excursions and all exercise activities in the middle or last days of your "vacation." The first step is to relax and help the body adapt to the new environment. Walk a lot, but it is better to avoid the open sun.
  • If you are faced with acclimatization, then in the early days it is necessary to give up alcohol and tasting local cuisine, if it is far from what you are used to. You should not torment your stomach with fatty, overly salty and fried foods.
  • The heat successfully prolongs acclimatization, so try to stay in the shade and use air conditioning in your room. If it's cool outside, open windows. Fresh air is good for you.

What is re-acclimatization

So, you got used to the new climate, felt like a fish in water and had a wonderful rest. We returned home with new impressions, a beautiful tan and a bunch of plans for the near future. Which, quite possibly, will not be implemented so soon, because no one canceled the chance to face re-acclimatization. That is, the body, which has already managed to reorganize, has to get used to the home climate again. This can be exacerbated by depression, which often accompanies ending vacation and going back to work. The means of combating this ailment are similar to those listed above. Try to plan your return so that you have a couple of days left before returning to the office to recover, rest, sleep, and return to normal life.

Acclimatization in children

Separately, it should be said about how acclimatization affects children, and what to do to make the process painless for little travelers. First of all, you need to consult your doctor. He will advise the country with the most suitable climate or exclude those that are definitely not suitable. He can also prescribe a course of vitamins and adjust the treatment if the child goes through it.

Further. In a new place, the baby needs to rest, gain strength, and only then begin to actively relax ─ visit playgrounds, excursions and swim. To quickly overcome acclimatization, try not to knock your child out of the usual diet and sleep patterns. This is especially true for food. The same rule applies here as for adults - you should not immediately pounce on exotic food. And when it comes to young children, it may be better not to introduce anything new into the diet at all. In the early hours, it is better to isolate the child from other children and generally avoid crowded places. Remember that acclimatization reduces immunity, so the risk of catching an infection increases significantly. By the way, returning home for a child can also be difficult: remember that he, like you, needs peace and time to recover.
