In order to climb the Olympus of fame and global demand, a makeup artist needs to meet a whole list of criteria: to lead beauty teams at Fashion Weeks, to lead columns in popular magazines, to actively rotate in celebrity circles, but most importantly, to have a special make-up handwriting, with which the familiar formula "there are no irreplaceable" will break to smithereens: there are no irreplaceable, but there are unique ones.
Among such masters, the first place is rightfully taken by Pat McGrath - a real veteran of the beauty and fashion sphere. During her more than 20-year career, Pat has become the favorite and close friend of numerous luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Valentino, Prada, Miu Miu and many others, worked with the most sought-after Hollywood actresses and supermodels, and created a collection of cosmetics for Armani Beauty, and these are just a few of McGrath's long track records.
In 2015, the celebrity makeup artist launched her eponymous makeup brand Pat McGrath Labs, and her Gold 001 sparkles literally blew up the beauty market: thousands of samples were sold out in a few minutes, and this finally approved Pat as the # 1 makeup artist in the world.
Why does everyone love Pat McGrath? First of all, for creating a trend for "no makeup look", which helps to achieve the effect of glowing from the inside of the skin with a minimal set of tools: moderate contouring, soft pigments and a light touch of highlighter. Pat is also considered an unsurpassed applique master, and her beauty hacks are hunted by millions of fans around the world. However, in her case, no hunt is needed, because in her interviews for foreign versions of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle and other publications, Pat gladly shared and shares her trademark secrets of perfect makeup. We suggest going through the most useful of them - in our first-person review.
About the base for lipstick:
“My personal tip is to use a foundation or concealer as a base coat before applying lipstick. This simple trick will help create the perfect finish and enhance its durability. As for the application technique, I personally adhere to the following scheme: I apply lipstick to the contour of the lips, and then paint over the inner area with a double layer of the product."
Which lipstick to choose:
“When choosing a lipstick, I advise you to give preference to products with a moisturizing formula. Matte shades, as a rule, only accentuate the wrinkles of the skin of the lips and highlight their visible imperfections.
About the ideal shade:
“Lipstick is one of the most important beauty products in my cosmetic bag, and certainly in a rich red hue. With such an assistant, you will definitely not be lost: with her, any daytime look can be turned into a spectacular evening one in a few touches. In addition, with such a shade you will always feel confident. I recommend opting for a matte lipstick for a truly sophisticated look. For more shine, use a shimmery shine with a plump effect."
How to make your look more spectacular:
“Many fans of black eyeliner who turn to me for advice say that it often makes the look darker and rougher. It would seem that what could work more efficiently for an open bright look, but not everything is so simple. I believe that in this situation it is better to paint over the inner contour of the lower eyelid with a white pencil. As a result, the view will become wider and more open."
About perfect lashes:
“To bring real beauty, brush several times at the very base of the lashes and only then move on to the tips. The fact is that if you start in the reverse order, then the bending of the eyelashes is unlikely to be effective. But in no case stop at any one coloring technique: experiment more and find the right combinations of movements and intensity of pressing. By the way, on a note: hold the brush horizontally to make your eyelashes voluminous, and vertically for maximum separation without losing naturalness (see also: "How to properly make up eyelashes: how to from Givenchy makeup artists") ".
The secret to an even skin tone:
“For a perfectly smooth finish, I always apply the foundation with the pads of my fingers, which heats it up for ease of blending and a flawless skin tone. Trust me, this is much more effective than all brushes and sponges combined."
About the most underrated makeup tool:
“And it's definitely a blush! Despite the fact that many try to bypass them, in fact they are the best way to create the effect of high cheekbones. I am especially partial to creamy textures that can be applied to the apples of the cheeks, temporal area, forehead and even chin. Blush can completely replace bronzer, give your face a radiant, healthy look in just a few touches."
How to choose a foundation:
“When you are testing a foundation, keep in mind that it is very important to apply it not only on the face, but also on the neck, to make sure that the shades match. Try not to achieve a high coverage: it is best to make several thin but well-blended layers. And yes, don't forget to see how the result looks in different lighting conditions."
About the highlighter:
“Choose a highlighter that enhances the natural undertones of your skin. For warm tones, choose golden shades, and for cold tones - nude (read also: "Beauty-encyclopedia: how to use a highlighter correctly") ".

Finally from Pat:
“The biggest make-up mistake I see too often is the fear of experimenting, taking makeup too seriously. I always tell people to use makeup without second thoughts and fears: break boundaries, limits and never forget that makeup variations do not and should not have boundaries. For example, I always come to a new make-up discovery through a variety of mixes and combinations - and this helps me to improve as a makeup artist."
