Few people know that the functioning of many body systems depends on the bite. How your teeth fit together affects the muscles in your neck and head, your posture, and even your breathing.
Malocclusion can be either congenital or acquired - for example, due to incorrect or poor quality treatment (fillings, crowns, veneers or braces). Often, due to our carelessness and ignorance, or, much worse, due to the unprofessionalism of the dentist, we have to say goodbye to our teeth or face other equally serious problems. How to solve them with the help of advanced technologies - says dentist Anton Krivorotov.
What does the wrong position of the lower jaw lead to?
Posture, breathing, and our psycho-emotional status depend on the position of the lower jaw. For most people, the inconsistency of the position of the lower jaw may not manifest in any way. But there are cases when the symptoms still make themselves felt: among the minor ones, a painless click can be distinguished during opening the mouth; of the more serious ones - headaches, hearing impairments, shooting in the hand or fingers, intercostal neuralgia, violation of the position of the hip joint, etc. Often there are other local problems, such as abrasion and thinning of the hard tissues of the teeth.
It should be borne in mind that, for all other things, incorrect treatment will only temporarily hide the symptoms, and not eliminate their real causes. But then how to deal with the latter?

What is GNM Dentistry?
The new discipline of dentistry - GNM - is an approach that aims at minimally invasive and precise treatment or prevention of disorders of the jaw system. It pays great attention to the diagnosis of diseases and the use of accurate step by step techniques. The GNM principles apply to patients prior to orthodontic, therapeutic or orthopedic treatment. At the same time, diagnostic procedures are widely used that allow you to see the position of the lower jaw: for example, electromyography (a method for studying the bioelectric activity of muscles and neuromuscular transmission), kinesiography (position of the lower jaw in space), X-ray examination (teleroentgenogram, CT), etc. Modern GNM methods make it possible to clearly understand what really needs to be treated and what does not need to be treated.
What to do?
If you have to correct the bite, then you need to clearly understand where you want to come. First of all, you need to find the optimal position of the lower jaw specifically for you, so that the closing of the teeth leads to this position. Applying the principles of GNM, the specialist makes a removable mouthguard for the lower jaw, with which it takes the optimal position. This can be called a kind of "stencil" for further bite correction.

If you decide to engage in the prevention of problems and understand that, for example, crowded teeth are exposed to excessive stress and, accordingly, will wear out, then you can solve the problem with the help of braces. But here it is important to understand that braces are a tool that changes the position of teeth (see also: "To put on or not: everything you wanted to know about braces"). In this case, it is very important to organize such a closure in which the lower jaw will be in the optimal position. In other words: before placing braces, a full-fledged diagnosis of the position of the lower jaw is necessary in order not to "land the plane in the fog", but to make the treatment obviously successful.
With the help of veneers or lumineers, you can also correct the bite, but even if you decide to install veneers on 6-10 teeth, which are most noticeable when smiling, you must be guided not only by aesthetic considerations. The GNM approach helps to take into account such important factors as the position of the lower jaw, muscle tone and teeth closing.
PS:
For a high-quality occlusion correction or its prevention, an appropriate doctor's qualifications are required. In addition, before contacting him, it is important to understand whether you need it or not. And here the diagnosis of violations comes to the rescue. Immerse yourself completely in the problematic and be sure to discuss all the details and problem points with your doctor.
