After visiting the salon, we rarely think about the fact that the effect of professional care can be extended until the next visit, and not for a couple of days, as is usually the case. Hair health requires no less effort and attention than the skin of the face and body. Moreover, the result of the care largely depends on the quality of the selected products and techniques that you use. But this is not all: it is also very important not to indulge in harmful habits for hair, which are often the main culprits in their poor condition. We collected the most popular of them together with a stylist, designer, owner of the author's beauty studio Volifert Studio, Evgeny Trefilov.
1. Choose your shampoo at random
The choice of shampoo by hair type is the main factor in achieving the desired result. The more damaged your hair is, the less alkaline the formula should be. So, the use of aggressive shampoos for normal hair dries up weak hair and washes out the color, and the shampoo, enriched with caring ingredients, does not wash unpainted hair well, as a result of which it becomes dull and greasy.
2. Using air conditioner too often
Using a hair conditioner isn't always beneficial. Additional moisturizing and care is needed only for hair over 5 cm long, in any other cases, you can completely do with a well-chosen shampoo. And even more so with increased oiliness of the scalp, applying conditioner to the roots is an unforgivable mistake!
Note, however, that dry hair ends are very often the result of insufficient conditioner density (for example, hair is porous, bleached, and you are using conditioner on colored or even natural hair).
3. You forget that not only care affects hair moisture
In winter, hair is always drier than in summer. The main reason for this is exposure to dry air from space heating. But despite the persuasion of the master, you keep forgetting to put a humidifier at home. And in vain. Of course, additional leave-in products applied to the hair can help, but only slightly. As a result, by the spring finish, many ladies have to make a haircut that is noticeably shorter than the one they dreamed of.
4. You don't keep the hair mask long enough
If you keep the mask for less than the specified time, consider that both the product and the time are wasted. The fact is that this process does not tolerate non-compliance with conditions. If it says “hold for 5 minutes”, it means “at least 5 minutes”. It takes time for the mask to penetrate into the hair structure, then the process reaches its logical end - the pigments remain under the scales of the hair cuticle, and it is the acidic environment that contributes to the cuticle closure process. If you do not hold the mask, the cuticle will remain open, which means that the hair will not be soft, smooth and shiny (read also: “Mask, I know you: how to use a hair mask correctly”).
5. Do not rinse your hair with fresh water after bathing in salt
Bathing in salt water is also not beneficial. Moreover, many girls immediately rinse their hair with fresh water. And not in vain! Salt water dries to form salt crystals. This noticeably loosens the surface of the hair, as a result of which its scales are frayed - both against each other and against salt crystals. Result: brittle and dry hair.
6. Paint irregularly
Irregular dyeing does much more damage to your hair than dyeing itself. After the procedure, the hair throughout the structure is filled with pigments and care, but they will last no more than a month. After gradual washing out of the pigments, the hair remains with a bare, porous structure, vulnerable to dryness, brittleness and chafing of scales.
7. Change shades too often (and dramatically)
Eternal whims with a change of color - today red, tomorrow black, the day after tomorrow white, and now platinum - this is generally death to hair. So any competent hairdresser will try to vary the nuances of shades as gently as possible, observing the necessary dyeing technologies and time intervals, so as not to harm your main beauty pride.
