"If I only have one life … let me live it as a blonde," said an advertisement in 1958 for Clairol, the maker of America's most popular hair dye. Nowadays, such an ultimatum seems, if not conservatively boring, then definitely outdated. Today, redheads, brunettes, and girls with opal hair and strawberry gum will find their place in the sun. The latest trends of the season dictate to us that the hair should be healthy and well-groomed, that before the color, it just has to be natural.
The most interesting thing is that naturalness does not mean at all what it was 10-15 years ago. Surprisingly, sea blue or fire flame hair can also look natural, the main thing is the right color accents. Solid coloring, like the wig of the heroine Natalie Portman from the movie "Intimacy" - this is the main taboo of today's times.
If everything is clear with classic shades like chestnut, blond and even bronde, then how to deal with those colors that are not born with, like watercolors, jeans and gold. We found out how and with what tools you can change hair color without harm to their health and who is behind the best colored street style heads. We begin to dive into the world of multi-colored curls.
Beauty trend: colored hair
First, let's figure out which coloring techniques are now at the peak of their popularity and how they look.
Pastel and neon shades
The most popular type of staining. When the hair is first lightened and then dyed in shades of caramel and crayons or neon signs in Times Square. Options with several shades of the same color look especially advantageous. In this case, the staining turns out to be voluminous and very natural, so to speak.
In this dyeing option, the hair is tinted in several colors at once. These can be shades of one or, conversely, diametrically opposite colors. The main trick is to make sure that the strands are clearly distinguishable and differences in colors are visible.
This technique raises doubts among many about its attractiveness, but still there is something in it. The task of the colorist is to dye the hair in such a way as to create the effect as if they were dipped in a can of paint, that is, the transition from a bright shade to your natural one can be done practically along the line, that is, no smooth transitions are required.
This coloring technique was invented by the New York colorist Aura Friedman (it will be described separately below). It consists in the consistent application of dark blue and dark green shades to dark hair. The effect is impressive: in the light, the hair shimmers, and really, like gasoline on wet asphalt.
Another invention by Aura Friedman, inspired by the opal stone. In this dyeing technique, several shades of cut are used, namely pearl, clove, salmon and blue. Sometimes a little green is also added to make the contrasts even more visible and appetizing.
It is obvious why this coloration got its name. When shades of green, light green, blue, blue, black and white are poured on the hair, all this splendor looks, let's say, bewitching. Especially when moving and in difficult captures, when you can see how the hairs differ from each other.
Who paints a rainbow
Aura Friedman (AurFriedman @auracolorist)
Aura Friedman is the queen of New York, the mistress of multi-colored hair and, as they say, the one who brought all these incredible colors into fashion. Her clients include Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as all those who are tired of mournful dull hair.
After watching her Instagram a little, you realize that the girl has a great sense of color. While painting even the most incredible colors, Aura does not forget to take into account such points as the color of the skin, eyes and the overall image of her client. Friedman is the one who came up with such coloring effects as Oil Slick Hair (gasoline spilled on the asphalt in rainy weather), Opal Hair (hair shimmering with pearl, clove, salmon and blue shades) and Splashlights (horizontal coloring of strands that simulates a flash of bright Sveta).
Guy Tang @guy_tang
One of the most famous experimenters with color. Guy runs a YouTube channel, gives numerous tips in magazines, and regularly gives masterclasses to huge audiences. Once he came to Moscow and showed his skills in front of a huge audience. Of course, the audience was delighted.
Note that more than two million people have subscribed to his Instagram account, eager to get on the record, and his name is known all over the world, so if you suddenly decide to entrust Guy with your hair, be prepared that you will have to compete for a place at the hand of the master. They say the waiting time can be up to 6 months.
Tracey Cunningham @ traceycunningham1
Tracy can be called one of the most sought-after colorists in the world. She is responsible for the hair color of such Hollywood celebrities as Khloe Kardashian, Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lily Aldridge, Emma Stone, Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Lopez and many others. However, after standing in line for a while for an appointment and giving a round sum of money, you can become its client.
Tracey Cunningham's signature technique is to create sun glare on the hair, the so-called “Californian blond”, interweaving several soft and warm tones of paint with your natural color. Creative coloring is also her element. If you want the flames to consume your head, Cunningham will arrange it without difficulty. The obvious and main plus of all her work is not even the impeccable technique and verified selection of tones for your image, but the fact that after the hands of the master, the hair seems so shiny, well-groomed and healthy that it is difficult to believe in their reality.
Daniel Moon (Daniel Moon @majormoonn)
Nicole Richie and Kylie Jenner dyes her hair in all shades of the rainbow. He is equally good at both monochromatic dyes and crazy experiments with multi-colored strands all over his head. Trusting your hair to Moon is definitely worth it, his hands can work miracles with paint.
The colorist himself also likes to dye his hair either in a green shade or a golden blond. By the way, it was thanks to his crazy Instagram videos that everyone started talking about hair that glows in the dark.
Mateo Lar @ mateoitis
Those who dream of neon curls and those who prefer caramel blond also visit Mateo. A Hollywood colourist will help you find the right shade of any color you want. However, his talents do not end there. In addition, she is loved for the perfect haircuts and hairstyles of any complexity, which he can wind on his hair in a matter of an hour.
Shelley Gregory @shelleygregoryhair
Sheiley is especially good at coloring in shades of macaroon and multi-colored caramel. She spreads delicate pastel colors on a wide variety of hair from dark brown to blonde. Her Instagram is a real inspiration, so many romantic and delicate flowers, it seems, you will not see anywhere else.
By the way, you could see photos with examples of Shayleigh's work on many sites, but the lazy one did not overpower them. After carefully studying the pictures, you can easily understand why.
