“I sweat a lot: neither deodorants nor antiperspirants help. I heard that you can do botox in the armpits. Does it really work? And are there any other ways to deal with sweating?"
Anna, 25
Answers of specialists:
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is not only a pathology, but also a serious psychological problem. Sweat is needed for thermoregulation. A person can produce from 500 ml to 8 liters of sweat per day. Which can even lead to depression (20% of patients with hyperhidrosis fall into depression and inner isolation), since sweat and odor damage business reputation and personal life. There are two types of sweat glands: ecrine and apocrine. In addition to water and a small amount of electrolyte salts, apocrine sweat contains various products of protein metabolism, volatile fatty acids, and other compounds. This mixture already has a scent. But it cannot be called unpleasant. Apocrine sweat determines the individual sexual aroma of each person. It is barely discernible, but it can be intoxicating, dizzy - in general, beckon the representatives of the opposite sex. Unfortunately,in addition to members of the opposite sex, apocrine sweat also attracts bacteria. Microbes living on the skin begin to multiply at a tenfold rate. And where there are many bacteria, there is also their waste: chemical compounds with an unpleasant sweaty odor.
The problem today can be solved both by injection, hardware, and surgical methods (curettage of sweat glands). But it is botulinum therapy that allows you to block sweating on any part of the body, including palms, feet, back, etc. As a rule, Dysport is used for correction. The dry skin effect lasts for 8 months. The procedure is completely safe and has been successfully used all over the world for over 15 years.
To solve the problem of hyperhidrosis, hardware techniques are also quite successfully used. For example, the Miradry procedure is a non-surgical treatment to eliminate unpleasant odor and excessive sweating in the armpit using special microwaves. The effect will be lifelong and will be achieved in just 1-2 procedures. The technology is very popular in Japan, China and the United States and has been successfully carried out in more than 100,000 patients.
This hardware technique is based on the fact that microwave energy is directed to specific areas in the armpit. Apocrine and eccrine glands are heated, as well as hair follicles, after which they gradually degrade. Hair and skin color, seasonality - all this does not affect the result. The long-term effect of the procedure is due to the inability of the glands to regenerate. To be clear, our skin contains about 2-4 million sweat glands, and only 2% are located in the armpit. During the procedure, the doctor affects only these 2%, which does not interfere with the normal regulation of sweating in the rest of the body. It is important to take into account that the MiraDry® procedure requires local anesthesia, which actually guarantees the absence of any painful sensations. For a week, some patients have redness, swelling and local discomfort that go away on their own.
