Skin fasting is a new direction in skin care, which was first proposed by the creator of the famous Japanese cosmetic brand Mirai Clinical Coco Hayashi. Skin-fasting implies the so-called "cosmetic starvation" - a complete rejection of care and decorative products, which is aimed at full restoration of the skin. A complete instruction on the use of this beauty trend was compiled together with dermatologist, cosmetologist and plastic surgeon Madina Bayramukova.
Why is skin fasting necessary?
The idea of cosmetic fasting arose against the background of an overabundance of care products on the beauty market. Just think about how many different jars and tubes we need every day to look our best. Experts unanimously say that this approach is definitely harmful to the skin - it stops working on its own, getting used to daily moisturizing, nutrition, periodic scrubbing, applying masks, serums and oils.
The use of all of the above means leads to disruption of the natural regeneration of skin cells. In addition, creams, especially good and expensive ones, are addictive: as soon as you stop using them, the "rejuvenation effect" immediately disappears.
How does skin fasting work?
Experts suggest periodically conducting a cosmetic fasting ritual, so that the skin remembers the functions that nature has laid in it. Skin-fasting is usually designed for several days, during which it is recommended to do without any care products and wash with warm mineral water.
After the first try of this procedure, many are faced with increased tightness and dryness of the skin. But, as cosmetologists assure, this is an absolutely normal reaction to the refusal of care products. The main thing is not to be led by these sensations and hold out for several days, during which the regeneration process starts, the skin will begin to produce sebum and become smoother without using any care products.
How to carry it out (and not harm the skin)?
There are no definite guidelines on how often or for how long to skin-fasting. Some cosmetologists say that cosmetic fasting is best done at sea, where the high humidity will protect you from additional discomfort while rejecting the usual cosmetics. Naturally, during skin-fasting, you should avoid direct sun exposure, wear wide-brimmed hats so as not to create additional problems for your skin (see also: "How to protect your skin from the sun: advice from a beautician").
Skin-fasting can be practiced not only at the resort, but also outside the city. The main thing is to do it away from adverse environmental factors. Under these conditions, detoxification will be more intense and effective. To get a tangible result of skin regeneration after resting from all your favorite jars and tubes, cosmetic fasting should last at least 5-7 days.
In winter, it is better to refuse cosmetic fasting. At this time of year, the weather becomes an additional stress factor for the skin, because of which it needs constant protection and nutrition (read also: "How to take care of your skin in winter: 7 simple truths").
Also, you should not carry out skin-fasting if you have a skin disease (dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, seborrhea, acne due to hormonal disorders, etc.), since refusal of treatment and the use of special drugs in this case will bring only additional problems that you and your skin absolutely do not need.
