It is not too long before the 2020 presidential elections in the United States, and secular observers are eyeing not only the candidates for the presidency with interest. In February, Democrat Julian Castro, the former US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, announced his intention to participate in the presidential race, but it’s too early to assess the chances of a descendant of Mexican immigrants, but it’s time to get to know his wife Erica Lear. We tell you what is known about the potential mistress of the White House (see also: Is there life after the White House: what (usually) former US first ladies do).

Julian and Erica were born and raised in the same city
Castro and Lyra are natives of the large city of San Antonio in southern Texas. They first met when Castro came home from Harvard for summer vacation. The couple got married in July 2007 and now they have two children: daughter Karina and son Christian.
Erica attended the University of Texas at San Antonio
Lyra earned her BA in English and later became an MA in Educational Leadership. Spouse Castro has worked as a primary school math teacher for over a decade and is now an educational consultant.

Lyra collaborated with Dr. Jill Biden
With the wife of Joe Biden (US Vice President from 2009 to 2017), Erica worked as part of an initiative to encourage representatives of the Latin American diaspora to work in the field of teaching. “As a teacher, I have personally witnessed the tremendous impact we can have on our students by showing them that we believe in them and expect them to succeed. They grow and succeed,”Lyra said in an advertising campaign (see also: Argentine First Lady Juliana Awada: How the daughter of Arab migrants conquered the whole country).
Erica continues to work as a teacher
According to the New York Times, the lady now works in institutions in the Harlandale Independent School District, the San Antonio area where 19 public schools are based.
