Against the background of the scandal with Jeffrey Epstein, in which Prince Andrew was implicated (read also: "I Failed the Family": How the Sex Scandal around Prince Andrew developed), unflattering statements that Princess Diana made about her brother-in-law in the 90s surfaced.
Although then the Duke of York was not yet accused of having ties with minors and friendship with a scandalous billionaire, Wales had already noticed something strange and even repulsive in the behavior of a relative.

“Andrew was very, very noisy and loud. It even occurred to me that something was bothering him,”the princess told her biographer Andrew Morton, who published these notes after her death.
The princess also argued that York's public image was not true. True, here Lady Dee, rather, praised a relative: "He is called an idiot, but in fact he is very perceptive, believe it or not," - said Welsh.

The possible involvement of Prince Andrew with the Epstein scandal was discussed in 2019, after the death of the billionaire. Then the documents of the businessman were published, revealing the names of people who maintained close contact with him and visited his island. Among them were many celebrities, including Prince Andrew.
Earlier, in 2015, a girl named Virginia Roberts stated that, as a minor, she had a forced sexual relationship with the prince three times on the Epstein estate. In 2019, a scandalous photo surfaced in which Andrew hugs young Roberts.

The Duke of York remained silent for a long time, but then nevertheless decided on an interview with the BBC. In an interview with a journalist, Andrew denied all accusations, but he was suspected of lying, and as a result, the interview turned not only against the prince himself, but also against other BCS members, including his daughters Eugenia and Beatrice (see also: How the scandalous interview of Prince Andrew influenced BCS members).
The consequences for York himself were also disastrous: he resigned from his royal powers, lost his sponsorship from the Crown in 249 thousand pounds and stopped appearing at official events with the royal family, which actually means the expulsion of the prince.
It is curious that, according to rumors, Andrew is still the favorite son of Elizabeth II. By depriving the duke of his privileges, the monarch had to act according to protocol, but she is still very happy to see York at Buckingham Palace.
